  • Pita Express

    dieselboi
    14 May 2012 | 10:10 am
Pita Express Location: SW 3rd and Washington Hours: Mon-Sat, 11am-5pm The Story: The lot at SW 3rd Ave has food from almost every corner of the world and with the addition of Pita Express, we can now get a taste of Lebanon. Pita Express offers up both veggie and hot sandwiches with options including falafel, batata, chicken, kafta and beef shawarma. They have two different sized pitas so if you’re hungry, go with the large. I chose the smaller pita with falafel and had a forehead smacking moment when I saw they had lebneh. I love lebneh, the Lebanese cream cheese and will definitely…

    7 May 2012 | 11:24 am
Argentina PDX Location: NE 22nd and Alberta Hours: Tues-Sun, 10:30am-8pm The Story: Every year around the holidays, my family gathers with friends from many generations and we make sausage – Swedish, Polish and Bratwurst. It has been a family tradition for more than 35 years. Needless to say, I have the recipes memorized and if asked, could probably recite them. Argentina PDX offers Choripan, an Argentinian Bratwurst sandwich, and when asked, yes, they make the bratwurst in house. I was intrigued. In the 40′s, both during WWII and after, Argentina and other South American…
  • Eat Mobile Recap. Part 1.

    Cuisine Bonne Femme
    3 May 2012 | 1:30 pm
I scream, you scream, we all scream for Portland’s best Food Carts! Hoards of hungry masses descended upon the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) parking lot last Saturday, April 28th, for Willamette Week’s 5th annual Eat Mobile food cart fest. If you don’t know the history of Eat Mobile it started something like this: Way back in 2007 we received a call from our friends over at Willamette Week, “we are looking to do a charity benefit this year and we were wondering if doing something with Portland’s food carts would be popular?” At that point none of were even sure if…

At her cart, you get the same amazing dish, but now she is in control. I enjoyed chatting with her about her transition from…

    Clover Food Lab

  • George Howell Coffee Company

    rolando
    15 May 2012 | 5:45 pm
That’s George Howell in our Harvard Square store, teaching Rose how to pour coffee. This picture was taken over a year ago. So why are you just now seeing George Howell coffee at Clover? Some of you know that George Howell is a big deal in the coffee world. He brought high quality coffee from the West Coast to Boston in the 70′s with the Coffee Connection. He was one of the first to treat coffee like wine, paying attention to the place the coffee was grown. He developed the Cup of Excellence, a competition that lets growers in certain countries get better prices for their coffees.
  • Worm journey: Part 1

    Antoria
    12 May 2012 | 8:38 am
Antoria (HSQ) here. My first post. Have you seen our garden upstairs? This is all unbelievable to me. I don’t consider myself a gardener. I used to feel as if I had a black thumb. I have been known to kill a plant or two. I was so bad my grandmother refused to let me water her plants when she was on vacation. The raised bed at Clover helped me realize that a plant is only as healthy as its soil. After a failed first attempt with some store-bought soil, I went out and got my hands dirty. My journey started in Dorchester at my favorite cafe. The manager Lucian, told me about his garden…
  • George Howell coffee: El Roble, Santander, Colombia

    rolando
    11 May 2012 | 9:46 am
We’ve wanted to serve George Howell’s coffee for a long time. It was actually the first coffee roaster that I visited, back in early 2009. George hosted Ayr and I at his roastery. I recall doing a formal cupping and discussing coffee varietals, light roast coffee, Dunkin’ Donuts, brew methods, among other things. El Roble is an organic coffee from Colombia. It will be rolling to most Clover locations starting today. I think it’s smooth with a bit of a fruity tang to it. Really delicate. Definitely taste it black before adding milk and sugar. If you stop in to try…
  • Rhubarb T-Shirt

    ayr
    11 May 2012 | 7:30 am
This is a T-shirt I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. Mostly because I love rhubarb so so much. But I’m not very happy with how it turned out. Notice how large the food icon is on most of our shirts. On this one it’s pretty tiny. Which is really too bad. I’ve also heard some criticism about the art on this one. Some folks don’t think it looks like Rhubarb. I make a new shirt every couple of months. The plan has always been to engage local artists to design different shirts, but I haven’t really pulled that off yet. Not enough time to go around and find…
  • Mystic descends on Harvard Square tonight 8pm

    ayr
    10 May 2012 | 7:18 am
Guess where this picture was taken? No, not at lab at MIT. This is straight from a brewery. A very unusual brewery. Not since our first Pretty Things launch have we had a beer launch that’s been as long in the working. My first notes from talking to Bryan are from November 2010. Most of you probably haven’t heard of him, except maybe from us. But I think everybody who is into beer will know Mystic really well someday. Bryan worked in the commercial fermentation industry for years, helping big companies make alternatives to artificial sweeteners by using yeast to create flavors.
